Referencing System
To enable the Encyclopedia of Benesh Movement Notation to
be referenced, and to ensure that the referenced information
can be found easily, the encyclopedia has adopted a
referencing system.
Chapters
The chapters of the encyclopedia are numbered
sequentially from C1 to C31 with the letter 'C'
denoting that it is a chapter. Chapters are in ALL CAPITAL
LETTERS.
Articles
The articles within each chapter are also
numbered sequentially starting with A1 with the letter
'A' denoting that it is an article. Articles are in
Title Case.
Chapter and Article numbers are shown in the chapter and article
listing respectively on the main encyclopedia page. The
article number is prefixed with the chapter number, e.g.
C4.A3.
When chapters and articles are cross referenced within
the encyclopedia text itself this is not the case, i.e.
See:
Rhythm and Timing 1: First Principles
NOT
See: C13.A1. Rhythm and Timing 1:
First Principles
Headings
The headings within the articles are listed as part of the
'Contents' in the menu on the left. When referenced, the
heading number should be prefixed with the letter 'H',
e.g. H1, H2.3 etc.
Paragraphs
The paragraphs within each article has been
numbered sequentially running through the whole article
regardless of any headings within it (see example to the
left). When referenced, the paragraph number should be prefixed
with the letter 'P', e.g. P1, P3-7 etc.
Usage
When referring to the encyclopedia, specific pointers have
to be given as to the:
- Chapter
- Article; and
- Heading OR Paragraph(s)
In the example in the left column (which is from C9.A4.
WRISTS AND ANKLES 4: WRIST DIRECTION 1: THE SIX BASIC WRIST

C9.A4.P20,
C9.A4.P20a,
